Cuba Libre Recipe

Cuba-Libre-Recipe The Bottle Club

A classic Cuban cocktail of rum, cola, lime and ice. Basically, the only difference between a regular Rum and Coke, and this cocktail is lime (and its juice). In the majority of recipe variations – the lime is optional, but in our opinion, this simple citrus addition to the mix creates a delicious and unique flavour.

"Cuba libre!" was the rallying slogan of Cuban revolutionists against Spanish rule at the tail-end of the 19th century. Legend has it, in the year 1900, there was a captain in the U.S. Army stationed in Havana, Cuba during the Spanish-American War. When he poured Coca-Cola and a squeeze of lime into his Bacardí and toasted his Cuban comrades by calling out in the bar, “Por Cuba Libre!” (“To a free Cuba!”) this classic cocktail was born.
